  • Lotsa Print & SignagePort Douglas, September 8th 2014 - Colour Graphic Service's David C'rowther has completed the certification process for Queensland's Lotsa Print & Signage to become Mellow Colour ISO 12647 Proficient Printer certified. This makes Peter and Bev Martin's Port Douglas - based business the only such ISO certified printer north of Brisbane.

Employing 37 people at four sites - Port Douglas, Atherton, Cairns and Townsville - Lotsa's Mellow Colour ISO 12647 Proficient Printer certification covers its Ryobi 925UV press and systems at the main 'Port' location; with the added benefit that its iGen4 digital press has been adjusted to match the Ryobi so closely that it can be used as a proofing device as well as for short run colour work. Lotsa's HP Latex and FB500 signage printers, located in Cairns, will also be profiled to bring colour under control and synchronise with the offset plant.

Peter and David1	"I wish we had done this 5 years ago,"says Peter Martin, adding: "The benefits of savings in ink usage, quicker make readies, identifying issues earlier and eliminating individual printer's opinions on just what is 'good' colour and the overall consistency across all output devices, have both financial and efficiency rewards well worth the cost of the Mellow Colour ISO certification process by Colour Graphic Services."

David Crowther initially received test press sheets from Lotsa in order to assess the results using the Mellow ColourPrintSpec report colour analysis tool. "PrintSpec identifies exactly where colour issues might be; it gets right down the the root causes of any problems and from that base, colour can be brought under control and up to ISO 12647 standards," he says. "I then traveled up to Lotsa's main plant and spent four days going through the entire workflow, prepress and output devices which has resulted in Lotsa's offset printing achieving Mellow Colour ISO 12647 Proficient Printer ISO certification."

Lotsa Print & Signage also purchased and was trained on, a copy of Mellow Colour PrintSpec plus an X-Rite i1Pro spectrophotometer and software. This will enable in-house monitoring for continuous improvement and overall colour control - essential in such a remote location.
